Facts about beef in Bahrain

• During Ramadan- Bahrain’s meat consumption is expected to increase up to 50%.
• Over the years the consumption of meat has increase in the Kingdom and people have become more wasteful due to rise in income living standards and affordability said Supreme Council for Environment Waste Disposal Unit head.
• Consumption of animal products- such as meat- fish- eggs and dairy- reached 8.2 million tons in 2007- up from an average 6.4 million tons during 1999–2003 and made up 21 per cent of total consumption in 2007.
• The daily per capita intake of animal protein and fat have increased at the expense of carbohydrates.
• Bahrain consumes about 3000 head of cattle every day and about 400000 head of cattle consumed annually.
