- Food and Agriculture Organization data on meat consumption show Egyptians are eating about 25kg of meat a year- even though their incomes are relatively low.
- With a population of 80 million- Egypt consumes about two million tons of meat annually.
- FAS Cairo forecasts Egypt’s calf production growing to 1.7 million head in 2014- up some 80-000 head or about 5 percent compared to the 2013 level.
- Meat consumption in MY2014 and MY2015 is higher by 80-000 MT compared to MY2013. Beef consumption in general is driven by the availability of beef with affordable prices for poor people who comprise the majority in Egypt.
- In 2007- Egypt has about 23.0 kg/person/year meat consumption.
